Biography of Valeria Busdraghi

Freelance dancer and performing artist, born in Italy

Valeria Busdraghi began her dance education in her hometown Livorno, Italy at A.E.D (Associazione Europea Danza) before moving to Germany at age 15 to continue her ballet training at a professional level with the John Cranko Schule. Highlights of her time at the John Cranko Schule culminated with the performances of “IN &OUT“ by Hans van Manen and “Come neve al sole” by Rolando D’Alesio. Valeria graduated in 2009 and in the same year she joined the Stuttgart Ballett for one season, performing repertoire such as “The Sleeping Beauty”, “La Fille Mal Gardée’” and “Giselle”. 

Valeria Busdraghi expanded her dance formation studying two years at the Codarts University of the Arts, Rotterdam, graduating in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in modern dance. During this time she had the opportunity to perform “Wing of Wax” by Jiri Kilian, “Chamaleon” by Itizk Galili and “Master of Puppets” by Isabelle Chaffaud & Jérome Meyer. Alongside these studies she also partook in performances with the company DeStilte, in Breda, and throughout Holland.

Between 2012 and 2019 Valeria Busdraghi worked as a freelance dancer with choreographers Michele Pogliani in Rome and Camilla Colella in Lausanne. Her horizons expanded even further moving into dance theater with choreographer Micha van Hoecke and the company MDA, Teatri di Pietra run by Aurelio Gatti, touring extensively throughout Italy.

Since 2016 Valeria has been based in Berlin participating in several multidisciplinary creative projects like “Playground” with choreographer Anima May, exploring the meeting point of dance and paint; Alexandra Pirici exhibition “Aggregate” in Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and attending improvisational happenings with Transcultural Ensemble Berlin.

2017 was the beginning of Valeria’s working collaboration with long standing Sasha Waltz company member Maria Colusi. Valeria worked for Maria as assistant choreographer in the theatre piece “Kinder Des Paradises” at the Berliner Ensemble and in 2019 performed Maria’s duet “Querandí”, on tour in Thessaloniki, Berlin and Livorno.

Since 2016 til present Valeria has been a member of the musical “Roméo et Juliette, les Enfants de Vérone” choreographed by Carl Portal touring Asia and Russia.

Currently Valeria Busdraghi is working with DNT, Deutsche National Theatre und Staatskapelle Weimar on a new adaptation of “Cabaret” with director Nurkan Erpulat and choreographer Modjgan Hashimian for the season 2020/21.
