Biography of Valeria Busdraghi

Freelance dancer and performing artist

Valeria Busdraghi, born in Pisa in 1990, is an Italian dancer and performer with an international profile, able to move naturally between classical ballet, contemporary dance, musical theatre, and dance theatre. Her career is driven by a deep curiosity and passion for live performance, which has made her not only a precise performer with solid technique, but also a keen observer, allowing her to take on roles of great responsibility such as dance captain and assistant choreographer.

Valeria began her training in her hometown, Livorno, at A.E.D. (Associazione Europea Danza), before moving to Germany at the age of 15 to complete her professional ballet studies at the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart. Already during her studies, she distinguished herself as a performer in contemporary repertoire, while simultaneously gaining stage experience in classical ballet through her first professional contract with the Stuttgart Ballet.

In 2012, she further expanded her training by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Dance at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, participating in works by Jiří Kylián, Itzik Galili, Isabelle Chaffaud, and Jérôme Meyer, as well as collaborations with the company De Stilte in the Netherlands.

After completing her studies, she embarked on a freelance career, collaborating with choreographers and companies such as Michele Pogliani, Camilla Colella, Aurelio Gatti, Micha van Hoecke, MDA, and Teatri di Pietra, developing adaptability and interpretative skills that brought her performances to numerous stages across Italy.

Since 2016, she has been based in Berlin, participating in interdisciplinary and performative projects, collaborating with Alexandra Pirici, Anima May, the Transcultural Ensemble Berlin, and Cie Kinoun. Among her most significant experiences are her collaboration with Maria Colusi, former dancer of Sasha Waltz & Guest Company, in “Kinder des Paradieses” as assistant choreographer at the Berliner Ensemble, and in the duet “Querandí”, as dancer, performed in Berlin, Italy, and Greece.

Her career has also extended into opera: she took part in the ensemble of Elektra, directed by Robert Carsen, at the Opéra National de Paris in 2022, and in 2024 she was a member of the corps de ballet led by Gheorghe Iancu and Letizia Giuliani for the 70th Puccini Festival, directed by Luigi Pizzi and Massimo Gasparon. She subsequently collaborated with Theater Magdeburg as a dancer in Tannhäuser, directed by Adele Thomas, and in Carmen and Clivia, directed by Julien Chavaz, experiences that also included roles as dance captain and assistant choreographer to Daniela Ojeda Yrureta.

In parallel, she has established herself in musical theatre: she participated in Romeo & Juliette – Les Enfants de Vérone, created by Gérard Presgurvic, choreography by Carl Portal (tours in China, Russia, Taiwan), and debuted at DNT Weimar with Cabaret, directed by Nurkan Erpulat, choreography by Modjgan Hashemian (2020–2024 season), where she currently works as a dancer and dance captain in Kiss Me, Kate, directed by André Kaczmarczyk, choreography by Louis Stiens.

Since 2024, she has maintained an ongoing collaboration with WD Tanztheater under the direction of choreographer Sagí Amir Gros, working between Berlin and Cologne on dance theatre projects, a context that allows her to express her sensitivity and bring real-life themes to the stage.

Her career is a constant example of curiosity and versatility, allowing her to move across styles, roles, and contexts, making every theatrical experience an opportunity for artistic growth.
